Unplugged

I spent the weekend away from technology- no instagram, no blogging, no twitter… just Kyle and me!  But before I recap our weekend, I have to tell you my horror story from last friday.

I Slept Through My Alarm

Last week we had ACLS (advanced cardiovascular life support) training on Thursday and Friday.  Thursday was a teaching day and Friday was the day we were to take our written test and be tested on leading a simulated code scenario.  Thursday evening I was all set to study the notes I had taken that day, but spinning class was calling my name and since it’s unusual that I feel such a strong desire to hit the gym, I went with it!

There was hardly anyone in the class but the energy was high and I got a great workout.  After class, it was already close to 8pm and I was tired.  So I decided to go to bed early and get up earlier than usual to study.  I set my normal 2 alarms (one 5 minutes after the first one) and I fell fast asleep.

Class on Friday started at 8am.  Imagine my panic when I rolled over in bed, looked at my phone, and saw 8:07 am!  Without thinking, I threw on some pants, a cardigan, and a scarf.  I put my hair in a bun on top of my head and threw a headband in my hair to make myself more presentable.  I didn’t worry about makeup or deodorant.  I grabbed an apple to eat in the car and was out of the house in 5 minutes tops.

The entire time I was driving downtown to the hospital I was panicking because not only was I SUPER late, but I hadn’t studied AT ALL.

Praise the Lord for nice people because when I arrived 30 minutes late, the instructor said it was fine.  She assured me that I had only missed some review and that as long as I had studied, I would be fine…. Great.

During the next few hours of practice code simulations I payed attention like my life depended on it.  I took notes, asked questions, and made sure I knew exactly what was going on.  Thank goodness for sharp study skills last minute because I passed the simulated code scenario and got a 100% on the written exam!

Phew!! What a way to end a ridiculously stressful morning.

Dinner

Since I didn’t have time to pack lunch on Friday morning, I bought a veggie wrap which actually was pretty tasty!  I was craving sweets for dinner so I made a quick batch of protein pancakes with a greek yogurt and PB2 frosting.

I’ve seen about a million recipes for protein pancakes and I’m sure they are all delicious.  I’ve tried some with cottage cheese, banana, greek yogurt, oat flour, the list goes on.

When I make protein pancakes, I use a no-frills recipe:  1 scoop protein powder + 2 egg whites + splash almond milk.

These babies were good!

Weekend

Kyle was here all weekend and it was wonderful!  It’s always great when he’s here and so sad when he leaves :-(

  • We went to spinning class at the gym Saturday morning.
  • We went shopping at the mall- Kyle had Christmas money to spend!
  • We went out to dinner at Oakleys- our favorite restaurant (see previous reviews here and here).
  • We rented and watched Ted.  I wouldn’t recommend watching this one with kids!

I did some more juicing.  This concoction has spinach, kale, carrots, celery, cucumbers, and an apple.

All in all, it was a great weekend and I’m refreshed and ready for Monday!

Questions:

What did you do this weekend?

Have you ever overslept and panicked?  Tell me I’m not alone!!

  1. Oversleeping and panicking seems to be a specialty of my boyfriend and myself. I haven’t missed a test or anything, but I’ve definitely had a couple of sheepish looks at my professors as I walk in late. Oops! At least we’re getting our sleep, right?

AND CONGRATS on passing. Girl, you’ve got SKILLS.

  2. I’ve definitely done that before! I did it the day AFTER school pictures this year! I woke up at 7:10, and I have to be at work by 7:30. I was grateful that it was not the day before!

In college, my fiance slept through a final! He was allowed to take it, but only for partial credit. I felt so bad because I knew he was up late studying the entire week leading up to the exam (hence the oversleeping).

    You are definitely not alone!
